Things to Do: Shopping
There are two big malls in Chiang Mai, each with hundreds of stores and their own movie theatres. Of the two,
Airport Plaza is the more high end one, and
Central or
Kad Suan Keaw is more for the middle classes.
Every evening, starting around 5 p.m. and ending around 11, Chiang Mai holds it's famous Night Market, or Night Bazaar. During the day you won't see much of it, but when the day starts drawing to an end, you'll see all the stalls moving into place. This is very popular because you can bargain for your prices. Most of the things you can buy here are quite cheap, because of piracy. I have to disclaim that this website does not support pirated goods. It's the way it is.
There are also many shops throughout the city, where you can find goods and services usually cheaper than in Western countries. There are also some smaller malls, such as
Pantip Plaza (located on the night market street) which sells computers and computer related items.
